Declaration to poison control centers
In case of inadequate use of a cosmetic product leading to adverse reactions, the EU legislation set a framework of intervention for medical response.
“[…] a Member State may, for purposes of prompt and appropriate medical treatment in the event of difficulties, require that appropriate and adequate information on substances used in cosmetic products be made available to the competent authority, which shall ensure that that information is used only for the purposes of such treatment. (Article 7(3) of the EU Cosmetics Directive)
The designated competent authorities are usually Poison Control Centers.
Declarations aim at informing poison control centers on the ingredients of the cosmetic products. They must be done in each EU Member State where the cosmetic products are sold, according to the country’s procedure.
BIORIUS’ service of declaration to poison control centers includes the 27 EU Member States.
