Notification to the competent authority

The notification is a pre-market administrative document meant to inform the competent authorities that a cosmetic product will be placed on the EU market.

“[…] The manufacturer or his agent, or the person to whose order a cosmetic product is manufactured, or the person responsible for placing imported cosmetic products on the Community market, shall notify the competent authority of the Member State of the place of manufacture or of the initial importation of the address of the place of manufacture or of initial importation into the Community of the cosmetic products before the latter are placed on the Community market”. (Article 7a (4) of the EU Cosmetics Directive)

A notification does not imply any official approval; in the UE, cosmetic products do not need to be approved to be placed on the EU market.

In its capacity of person responsible for placing imported cosmetic products on the EU market, BIORIUS can notify to the competent authority* that a cosmetic product will be placed on the EU market.

*In accordance with the transposition of the EU Cosmetics Directive 76/768/EEC into national laws and given that its headquarters is located in Mons, Belgium, BIORIUS observes the Belgian transposition of the EU Cosmetics Directive set by the Belgian Royal Decree of 15 October 1997 on cosmetic products. BIORIUS shall therefore notify to the Belgian competent authority, the Belgian Ministry of Health, that a cosmetic product will be placed on the EU market. Note that notification to the Belgian competent authority does not necessarily imply distribution in Belgium.
